Siaba Island, located in the northern part of Komodo National Park, is a picturesque destination known as the “City of Turtles” due to its abundant green sea turtle population. The island is divided into two main parts: Siaba Besar and Siaba Kecil. Both islands offer incredible snorkeling and diving experiences, with vibrant coral reefs and a variety of marine life.
Siaba Besar is ideal for beginner snorkelers, featuring a magnificent lettuce coral garden and gentle marine creatures like whitetip sharks, eagle rays, and blue-spotted stingrays. The island’s north-west side is particularly popular for its calm waters and beautiful coral formations.
Siaba Kecil, on the other hand, is known for its stronger currents and sloping reefs rich in corals and sponges. Divers and snorkelers can encounter small invertebrates, nudibranchs, and larger fish such as sharks and schools of trevallies and snappers. The island is also home to a large population of green sea turtles, making it a unique spot for underwater exploration.
Visitors to Siaba Island can enjoy the serene beauty of the underwater world, with opportunities to swim alongside turtles and observe the diverse marine ecosystem. The island is accessible by boat from Labuan Bajo, and the best time to visit is during the dry season from April to December when the waters are calmer and the weather is pleasant.
